Lifeguard Position Overview

Sherwood Community Pool is seeking responsible, energetic, and service-oriented individuals to join our team as  Pool Lifeguards. This role goes beyond traditional lifeguarding—it includes customer service, facility upkeep, and snack bar operations to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all visitors. 

Key Responsibilities

Lifeguarding & Safety

  • Monitor pool activities to prevent accidents and respond swiftly to emergencies.
  • Enforce pool rules respectfully and professionally.
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and water rescues when needed.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of pool equipment and surrounding areas.

Snack Shack Operations

  • Prepare and serve food and beverages.
  • Operate the cash register and manage transactions accurately.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Restock supplies and maintain a clean snack bar area.

Facility Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, changing areas, and other facilities.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the pool deck, including trash removal and surface cleaning.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of pool furniture and equipment.

Customer Service

  • Greet and assist patrons in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Answer questions about pool rules, programs, and services.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and courteously.

Qualifications

  •  Current Lifeguard Certification (including CPR and First Aid).
  • Strong swimming skills and physical stamina.
  • Ability to stay alert and focused for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience in food service, retail, or customer-facing roles is preferred but not required.

Work Environment

This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Flexible scheduling—including evenings, weekends, and holidays—is required. Additional duties may be assigned by the Pool Manager. 

Hiring Timeline

 December 1 – January 1

  • Application form available on the Sherwood Pool website.
  • Email notification sent to the pool community and previous staff.
  • All new and returning staff must submit an application by January 1. No exceptions.

January 1 – February 1

  • Manager and Board President review applications.
  • Returning staff applications and past performance will be evaluated for rehiring.
  • Interviews scheduled for new applicants as needed.
  • Preference given to returning employees before new hires are considered.

February 1 – February 15

  • All applicants will be notified of their employment status (hired or not hired).
  • If available, Sherwood will share details about a possible lifeguard certification class (not guaranteed).

March 1

  • Deadline for all employees to confirm lifeguard certification or provide written proof of enrollment in a certification class.

May 1

  • Square system activated for submitting time-off requests.
  • Staff communication group established via Remind or GroupMe.
  • Staff orientation date announced.
